BLACK BOOK
TOKYO PARK™ proudly presents its very First Japanese exhibition in Barcelona, Spain: BLACK BOOK, the fifth instalment of its kind.
The new curation project, conceptualised/materialised by TOKYO PARK’s Director and Curator Martim Barroso, will explore the current Japanese Alternative/Urban Art scene, presented with a diverse portfolio of acrylics, sculptures and woodwork, created by a select group of talented nationals and Tokyo-based artists: EMU, Itabamoe, Nakaya, Sivelia, Yeka Haski and Geoffrey Bouillot.
All participants group within the umbrella of Japanese Urbanism, yet they flourished in different contexts and express freely their iconography, techniques and colour palettes: EMU first started as a Graphic Designer and later became a full-time sculptor and painter in 2016, making wooden curved cartoon-like figures and angular, brightly coloured canvasses
TEXTURES
TOKYO PARK™ proudly presents its third Japanese group exhibition: TEXTURES.
Its most recent Curation will explore the world of Tridimensionality and Expressionism, the dichotomy/harmony of Visual and Tactile texture, through a Japanese lens. Such artistic narrative, supported by Director and Curator of TOKYO PARK Martim Barroso, will showcase a diverse collection of paintings and ceramic recently made by a select group of Young and Established Artists.
The new project will be kindly hosted at The Hyde Gallery in Chiswick, London. TOKYO PARK invites everyone to visit and witness the craft and beauty of Japanese Texture and Sentimentalism in Art: “The theme offers a wide variety of artistic expression and personality. A one-of-a-kind opportunity to present a more concise example of the current Japanese contemporary art scene to the British and European Audience.”
ONNA NO KO
Women – a collective entity that has been Humanity’s favourite source of Culture, Sense of Beauty, and Artistic Inspiration. For millennia, the female subject has been represented as goddesses, heroines and pioneers – strong figures that enchant and entrap its viewers in galleries and museums.
Even after the apparent disuse of academic dogmas in Art, the representation of the Female Sitter, changed its context and symbolism to modern standards, but maintained its imponent popularity.
For our Second Exhibition, in order to capture a fair representation of our theme, we decided to surpass the former number of participants: from 5 (previously presented in Tokyo Colours) to 9 wonderful artists, all empowered and inspired by female imagery, they will present their personal interpretations through diverse mediums, colour palettes and iconography.
Presented under Martim’s curatorial vision at The Old Street gallery,
62 Paul St, London EC2A 4DQ, from 16th to 23th of June.
